The Odunpazari Modern Museum (OMM) won the "Museums + Heritage Award" in the category "International Project of the Year > £1 million". The awards are given to highlight and honor important initiatives in the fields of cultural heritage and museums.
The museum in the Turkish university town Eskişehir presents itself as an ensemble of cubes formed from squared timber, which seem to float above a glass base. The Japanese architects Kengo Kuma and Partners have used this to create a "crystal-clear" structure to counter the winding alleys of the old town, providing orientation and signalling transparency. They chose the VISS steel profile system from Jansen to create the large-format facade glazing. Revolving doors of the same profile family, the size of a grid field, continue the generous line of the VISS facade in the access areas.
