New start in the Jansen production halls
In October 2023, Jansen AG took over a large part of the plant and equipment, including the powder coating, profile and system component storage, window element processing, profile processing, and wooden/metal window assembly divisions of Rino Weder AG. Since then, the powder coating, window and door element processing, profile processing, and assembly divisions of the CONNEX own brand (wood/metal windows) have been continuously expanded.
Production at the previous Rino Weder AG site has now reached its limits and is no longer sustainable. The space available no longer allows for the further optimisation of production processes. The site will therefore be closed at the beginning of 2026 and production will be relocated to the Jansen production halls. In the existing halls on the Jansen site, optimal, state-of-the-art production conditions will be created, providing the ideal conditions for efficient production processes according to the LEAN principle.
In order to facilitate the relocation of production, to ensure a smooth transition, and optimise production, work to comprehensively modernise the infrastructure in the respective halls began in summer 2024. Jansen will set up several new production lines for the frame production of the Connex wood/metal system and the kit and unit production of Schüco aluminium systems, whereby the different processes will be optimally designed and coordinated. Thanks to the investments in Connex and aluminium processing, Jansen will be the only supplier in Switzerland to offer its current metal construction customers and trade partners tailor-made services from a single source, covering everything from simple profiles to finished elements.
Investment in a state-of-the-art powder coating system
The existing powder coating system, which was taken over by Rino Weder, is now 35 years old. Technically, ecologically, and economically, it has reached the end of its life cycle and needs to be replaced.
The new powder coating system will be installed in an existing production hall on the Jansen site. It combines the latest technologies in the areas of energy recovery and waste water technology and includes a state-of-the-art conveyor system, chemical pre-treatment, a drying oven, powder booths, a curing oven, and a specially developed waste water management system. With a daily capacity of 1,600 m² of coated surface - the equivalent of more than six tennis courts - the plant can easily cope with both standard orders and individual customer requests.
Both materials, aluminium and steel, can be coated using the new powder coating system. Thanks to a special oven technology that utilises two separate lanes for different material requirements, production delays caused by varying dwell times for the materials in the oven are avoided. This can significantly increase the flexibility and efficiency of the coating process. In addition, valuable synergies can be generated between processing and the new powder coating system. Jansen not only offers the coating of its own profile systems, but also contract coating for external orders.
The new plant will be commissioned in January 2026 and, at some point in the foreseeable future, will offer customers the opportunity to witness the quality and performance of the new technology for themselves.
Gradual expansion of logistics capacities
Alongside the investments in production and powder coating, Jansen is also investing in logistics at the Oberriet site. In an initial phase, the existing capacities for the storage of steel and aluminium profiles will be expanded and partially modernised. In addition, a completely new pallet and small parts warehouse will be created in a separate, already-existing Jansen hall. Storage areas for several thousand pallets and a multi-storey facility with capacity for tens of thousands of small parts are currently being built there. The newly created pallet and small parts centre will be equipped with modern conveyor technology, self-propelled transport systems, and modern workstations, which will result in an optimised flow of goods and increased efficiency in logistical processes while at the same time expanding the product range. The newly created logistics capacities enable the inclusion of full range of products by the subsidiary RP Technik GmbH.
Investment in the future and the location
By investing in production, powder coating, and storage capacity, Jansen AG is preparing for future market demands with a view to strengthening its competitive capacity, sustainably and in the long term. In total, the Jansen family business is investing several million in the Oberriet site. This is a clear commitment to Oberriet and Switzerland as a production location. Customers, in turn, will benefit from greater convenience thanks to the expansion of the depth of services. A win-win-win situation for Jansen, its customers, and the location.
