A church in flux
For years, a growing number of churches have been taken out of use. Now, churches are no ordinary real estate: Sacred buildings represent a variety of aspects, which is why not only the parish, but often also the public have a great interest in preserving them. This is also the case in Bochum, where the Church of St. Mary dominates the cityscape. The decision to develop it into a “location with a musical profile” continues to secure the existence of the former church. The church interior now forms the foyer of the Anneliese Brost Musikforum Ruhr. The historically valuable windows of the Church of St. Mary were restored for this purpose. To do this, Jansen bent the more than nine-metre-high windows made of Janisol Arte profiles using a template from the metalworker Jansen.
