Fortress ‘Königstein’: Preserving the look of the building period
It is one of the most important fortifications in Europe: the Königstein Fortress on a nine-and-a-half-hectare rock plateau in the bizarre rocky landscape of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains.
The renewal of the windows at War Barracks I on Königstein Fortress was required from a monument preservation point of view: After steel windows had been proven beyond doubt in the archives of the fortress, the existing composite windows were replaced by mullioned windows made of Janisol Arte 2.0. In order to preserve the appearance of the building as best as possible, the panes were sealed from the outside. The company Glaskunst Buhlig, Schwarzenberg, used them to make 20 mullioned windows with ventilation sashes. "Thanks to the excellent profile properties of Janisol Arte and our technical know-how for special constructions, the original windows could be recreated almost 1:1," explains the project planner from Glaskunst Buhlig.
