Portfolio expansion in fire protection facades: Classification and approval of the VISS Fire facade EI60
Building on the findings of the VISS Fire facade EI30, the new approval for curtain walls and partitions offers architects design perspectives: Glass sizes up to 3240 mm wide x 1680 mm high are possible or alternatively, for example, up to 1800 mm wide x 3000 mm high, and various variants for the design of building corners have been tested. Where previously only face widths of 50 mm were tested, both 50 mm and 60 mm variants are now available. To be able to utilise the diverse design options of the VISS facade with fire protection, the Linea design profiles and highly static profiles were also integrated into the approval. This means that the full range of VISS facades is also available with EI30 and EI60 fire protection.
The design of the VISS Fire facade EI60 also takes environmental aspects into account: Jansen provides an EPD for the facade that has been verified by the IBU in Berlin. Among other things, this shows CO2 values for the facade which, with a base value of 1.6 kg CO2 / kg steel, contribute to a positive assessment of the use of steel. In addition, the material of the gaskets assigned to the system has been changed: instead of CR (chloroprene rubber), which is energy-intensive to produce, Jansen uses EPDM (ethylene propylene diene rubber)
When assembling the Jansen VISS Fire facade EI60 system, only different fire protection laminates are required compared to the VISS Fire facade EI30. This means that no time-consuming familiarisation with a new system is necessary during production. The number of items is therefore kept as low as possible, which reduces the amount of capital tied up in storage. The new EPDM gaskets are not only more environmentally friendly to manufacture, but also easier to process. Pilkington is currently the only glass manufacturer covered by the authorisation. Various national approvals for partitions and facades are already available or in preparation. Ongoing updates are made via the Jansen Docu Centre.
The Jansen VISS Fire facade EI60 is expected to be available in JANIsoft starting in October 2024. Tests, calculations and dimensioning are also part of the service. All documents relating to the steel profile systems are available to download free of charge from the Jansen Docu Centre. The latest versions of the product ranges, processing documents and relevant certificates and evidence that metal construction companies require for declarations of performance and CE markings can also be found there.
