Art and culture in the Kubus
A century after its foundation, the Bauhaus has now purchased its own building in its home town of Weimar. The minimalist Kubus confidently asserts itself against the imposing Gauforum, which initially drove the Bauhaus out of Weimar and then out of Germany altogether. The new building is sparing in its use of materials – concrete, glass and steel – as is typical of the ‘Bauhaus style’. The architects chose the proven Jansen steel profile systems to implement the sometimes large-scale glass structures.
